The national contest, which ran from September-November 2013, asked for nominees who demonstrated "genuine goodness and going above and beyond to make a difference in their communities." The efforts of the Books With No Bounds cofounders were then recognized across Canada as the pair was named one of the contest's top ve nalists in December 2013. After a public voting segment, Julia and Emma were announced as winners Monday. "Shreddies believes this country is full of genuinely good people, and we know there are many who strive to make a difference in their community ," Melissa Marchesano, Shreddies product manager, said in a news release. "Julia and Emma are a team who deserve to be recognized for their dedication to better the lives of others, and we are thrilled that Canadians chose them." As nalists of the contest, Julia and Emma were given ve cartons, approximately 120 boxes, of Shreddies cereal to donate to a charity of their choice -- they selected Fareshare food bank as the bene ciary. The teen sisters have made it their mission to collect and distribute books for remote, y-in communities in Northern Ontario. Since its inception in 2011, Books With No Bounds has collected 29,000 books and sent them to Fort Severn, Keewaywin, White Dog, Fort Albany (including the women's shelter and school), Attawapiskat, Lac Suel, Henry Coastal School, Muskrat Dam, Migizi Wazism, Cat Lake, Obishikokanj and Deer Lake. "Their dedication to the cause has had a very positive impact on residents of all ages within these communities," stated the release. "Through initiatives like their book drives, the sisters engage their own community and inspire its members to come together to help improve the lives of others."
