The Hamilton Derby in Impressive .StyIe-Seven Start, With Barrie Colt Easy Winner. Talent R_gceiv_e__l s1m_p Surprise Ana] gsnxas VALIJED AT 52,5001 'Dyxnent s crack 3-year-old Chief Kee again `showed his quality by .winning the Hamilton Derby in im.- 'pr-essive fashion on" Saturday in a eld of seven. The distance was 1%. miles, the stake being valued at $2500.- A long price was laid ' against the Barrie horse,.as_ good as seven and exght _to one being obtainable. Don A-ntomo was post favonte at 2% to I. The eld got away to a good start, and from the break Detroit, with his early `speed, settled down to set the pace, which he did all the way round to the head of the home stretch, run - ning like a real_, good horse, with Wm. Pitt and Sager as his next attendants. Chief Kee all the time had been `run- ning. in fourth position, under care- ful restraint from little Phil Mus- grave, who was content with his po-- sition until the stretch was reached, when he took his mount up and around to the front, the Barrie colt responding gamely. As he captured the lead coming _down the stretch he bumped into Wm. Pitt, who in turn crowded Detroit, but as both horses were beaten at the time, little harm was done, and the Dyment horse did not suffer as a result. Sager, on the outside, was free from all interfer- ence, and raced with Chief Kee to the wire, although unable to stand. the stiff drive that the latter made, with the result ithat Chief Keewon the big event by a wide margin from the horse who was fresh from a triumph over Joe Madden on the New York track, and Wm. Pitt, the big sluggish colt, of the Hendrie stable, who shapes up like a real race horse. Fulll, outclassed by the entire eld, was fourth, while Detroit dropped` back into last place. `Chief Kee was much the best, and his race is onlyl another indication of the value that Johnny Dyment received for his money, ewhen he purchased the `win- ner of the King Edward *Hote'l Cup and Hamilton Derby for $5,000 last year.` Chief Kee was little fancied by the general public, who failed to realize what a good colt he is, an.d few, with the exception of the stable s connections, protedby the victory. Phil Musgrave, the `Seagram jockey. ` gave the Derby winner a_n excellent ' ride, and contributed a great deal to . the result. ` 1 4 4 1 HAD A PLEASANT OUTING.
