He had sat as Judge of Assize, and in the famous suit _of Patriarche vs. Town of Orillia showed high judicial capacity, his findings` in that long-drawn-out case being subsequently sustained C in the appellate court. But his reputation was not confined to the County; he performed valuable service for his Province as Crown Prosecutor, ' on the criminal circuit, and was held in high est_e.em by the_ Attorney-Gem eral s Department. Studying law in Toronto "under. the late Sir Matthew Crooks Cameron. perhaps the great- est criminal counsel of his time. Mr. Strathy was called to the,Bar in 1871.
