Creelman. superintendent of farmers institutes, is well satisfied with the work per- formed by inspectors and the two extra in- structors in cheese who were appointed for the purpose of experimenting on the value of such work in connection with the cheese in- dustry. These -eentlemen had 25 cheese factories each assigned to their care. and II a result of their labors during the summer have increased the value of the cheese lathe old country market from g to 1 of a `cent I bound. In the past the cheese and dairy inspectors covering the 1.500 odd cheue factories of Ontario have `had a couple of hundred factories each to cover. This was a great many more than they could inspect; at, all satisfactorily.'and attempt to give any instructions with a view to improving the output Mr." Creelmau, speaking of the matter to-day, said that Canadian cheese makers should recognize the conservative condition of the Ennlish trade, and that . there should be no difference in either the quality or the color. He believed that the time was now ripe for compulsory inspection. and for compelling cheese exporters to keep their cheeseat a xed standard. Mr. Creel- man s report will nrobably lead to a Govern- ment measure at the next session of Parlia- ment providimz for the licensing of all fact- ories and imposing a small license fee to pay for the cost of inspection. As the law now stands no matter how badly a factory is run nor how unsanitary its surroundings, the health oicer is the only man who can take nroceedings to abate the nuisance. With such an enactment as the one proposed. how- ever. if the factories were not up to the mark they would be closed. G BA IN DELIVERIES. Grain deliveries continue to be somewhat light for this season of the vear which tact may be accounted for by the circumstance of the farmers being occupied somewhat later than usual with their root crops. About 4000 bushels of oats brought from 29 to 31 cents a bushel. 5000 bushel of peas at from 69 to 72. 6000 of wheat at 66 cents. 800 of barley at 37 cents. 800 of rye at 45 cents. a Buckwheat is coming in slowly and is worth about 48 cents Saturday : market was one of the largest seen this fall in Barrie both in regard to supplies and attendance. Dairv produce was a trile stier than it has been lately and potatoes advanced somewhat. In other respects very little change was noted in any of the lines. There was a good snpplv of butter and eggs with -an active demand for the best grades of both Pound rolls rented. from 17 to 18 cents. Eggs bv sinzle dosens commanded as high as twentv cents and by crates 16 and 17 cents There was I brisk demand for poultry. Dressed chickens sold at all the way from forty to elchtv cents a pair. Ducks hrouzht from 60 to 80 cents. turkeys from 10 to 12 cents a pound and geese from 7 to 8 cents a pound. Po- .`tatoes were very scarce and from 85 to 90 cents a bag was readilv obtainable for them. Hay advanced somewhat and sold at 88 50. MARRIAGE IN TORONTO OF mes ` EMMA HARPER AND MR.
