He then took a three years course in the Agri- _ cultural College at Guelph, and was appointed an instructor in the Dairy Schools at Qu Appelle, N. W. '1'. There he worked during the summer and through the. winter had charge of a dairyclass in the Agricultural College atvGuelph. In the summer of 1898. he was seriously wounded in a game of polo at Qu Appelle, which-necessitated rest for a year. He returned home and had hardly recovered ` from that accident. when he went to Toronto and applied for service in South Africa. He was readily accepted. the oicer saying,` I wish we had a regiment _ of men of such fine physiqueas you. He was a man of ns `physical form and inst such a fellow as would get into the thick of the ght, if the defence of his ' country demanded it.
