TLY_..\: Apto. 1.8! to ME. and Tlie following scenes were onaoted on civic holiday : In scene 1 a young citizen had im- lbibed too freely of re water and was lying helpless near a street fence in town. Among the boys who stood near was a town constable who kept mutter- ing to himself, If he yells I will arrest him, While he was indulging in the dollar vision a good Samaritan woman came along and proceeded to help the unfortunate young man to his home. This caused some amusement to the constable and others, whereupon the good lady said, Oh. we should not laugh at a brother's downfall; we do not know how soon it may come to our own door." The young fellow was as sisted home and the constable followed, no doubt waiting for the yell, but when it was too late for a yell, he turned homewards, a voice calling after him, lYou did not get your dollar after all. Scene 2 was enacted later in the day. Two men, presumably travellers, were resting quietlv by the railway 'track east of Carley s boat house. The same constable, catching a glimpse of these fellows, said, I'll shadow them. So he shadowed them and overtook them later on between Barrie and Al- landale stations. It is presumed that the constable was trying to induce one of e them to yell, when one of the twain gave him a knock-out blow, which laid him by the track long enough for them to get out `of eight and out of danger (2). The constable got up but couldn t see them, nor did he hear them yell. Clara Sinclair,. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Sinclair, Sophia street, died at the residence of her uncle, Mr. C. H.
