A political meeting was held in Vic- toria hall here on the 16th inst., in the interest of Mr. J. S. Duff, Lib. Conser- vative candidate for West Simcoe, but owing to the very cold weather the crowd was not as large as otherwise would have been. The speakers were Mr. Bennett, M.P., of East Simcoe ; R. Bell, Reeve of Essa; and the worthy and eicient candidate himself. Mr. Du' was the rst speaker, who made a capital speech and received rounds of applause. Mr. Bell was the next Speaker. He gave a number of good pointers. Mr. Bell is evidently well posted in some of Hon. George Wash- ington Ross s petty schemes, as he clearly showed them up. Mr. Bennett, although the last to speak, came in .for the largest share of the time. For about one hour and a half he riveted the attention of the audience who were sorry when he quit; they could have listened all night ; 1! pleasant and able speaker is he. He made everything clear and plain. Three cheers for the Queen and Mr. Du" brought a very enthusiastic meeting to a close. Duffs election is sure. Shortly after 3 p.m. the groom appeared before the hymeneal altar, followed by the bride leaning on the arm of her father. The groom was supported by Mr. H. Fisher, while Miss S. Campbell, sister of the bride, acted as bridesmaid. The bride and bridesmaid were beautifully dressed in drab cashmere adorned with silver leaves. The nuptial knot was tied by Rev. G. Agar, B.A., pastor. After the marriage ceremony was over and congratulations had been given, the guests repaired to the dining room, where a sumptuous dinner awaited them. The tables were loaded with a great variety of dainties, including the bride s cake, and` everything was ar. ranged with exquisite taste. w'The __ guests being principally married people, | dispersed at an early- hour,-feeling that they had spent a very enjoyable after- noon.
