Mr. Robert Goodfellow, of Bayeld St. north, died on Tuesday afternoon, in his sixty-first year. He was born in West Gwillimbury township, near Bradford, in 1837, and some years afterwards moved to Con 8, Iunisl, then to Letroy for nine years, before moving to his property near Cundle s school, where he lived for nearlv eight years About eighteen months ago he received a stroke of paralysis, which was followed by a lighter stroke six months ago, but from the effects of it he never recovered. Mr. Goodfellow was a man of many excell- ent qualities and of true Christian character. For several years he was supcrintemlcnt of a. union Sunday school in Cumlle s school ~ house, in which he took 1. deep interest. He was a consistent member of the Presbyterian church. His wife, formerly Miss Adams, of Innisl, is still living. and also an only daughter. Mrs. (Rev ) James A. Dodds, of Mexico, who for several months has, in attendance at her father s side The broth- ers of the deceased are :--Joseph Goodfel- low, Barrie: William, Bradford ; James, New York ; John, Bay City, Mich; Adam and Samuel, Collingwood. The two sisters are Mrs. Matthew Faris and Mrs James Faris, Bradford. The funeral takes place | company with her mother, been in constant this afternoon. I I Regular Meeting W. C. T. U. The regular meeting of W. C. T. U., on Thursday afternoon was interesting. The attendance was rather above the average, but those present were sorry that some of the more recent members were absent. The prospects are excellent for plenty of work for all those interested in the cause of tem- perance. The reports of the different de- partments of the work were very gratifying. A letter was read showing the gratitude of the lumbermen to a W. C. T. U. Missionary who labors among them and receives a. hearty welcome. The .local union is endeav- oring to get Mrs. Barry Lake, of St. Louis, president of the Catholic Total Abstinence League to deliver` an address here in the near future. The West Ward Anti-Cigar ette Society have changed their name to Anti-Tobacco Society, and of late many boys have joined. The two visiting clubs were ao- ()rillia is out of the nals is the result of Monday night s match between Coiling- wo`od and Orillia, played here, resultingin 3goals for Collingwood and 1 for Orillia. The northern district championship now rests with Collingwood and Barrie. From the very beginning of the game Collingwood played rings around Orillia; this made the game very one-sided, therefore did not call out such ne exhibitions of hockey as former matches, particularly the one be- tween Barrie and Orillia a few nights ago. True it is that Orillia scored the first game, though Collingwood had the best of the play. Orillia worked hard all the time, but were not in luck, or at least not in good hockey condition. Mary Curran of course was the best Orillian, but he did not often get the puck away from his check, Elworthy, and twice or three times fell heavily to the ice. 9. thing very unusual with Curran. Hanley in goal had about the -hardest light of all, for there seemed a rain of shots on goal almost more than he had" patience to |-put up with. In fact when Collingwood scored their second goal, Hanley threw around his stick in disgust. Orillia _waken- -ed up in the fourth game, but though en- couraged for a time they were doomed to defeat; as it was not very long till there were three or four regular Rugby scram- bles about Collingwood goal, which were followed by a pretty score. Orillia had to play the few minutes remaining, nursing the ` three to one ticket, for it remained un- good trim, but the forwards, Rule, Brown and Elworthy did the most effectual work. Umpire Bundle, of Toronto, watched the `Collingwood goal and was continually jump- ing from side to side of his wire cage with his eye on the puck. He says he never had so busy a. time as umpire. . Phillips at the other goal-h d about aslittle to do as goal keeper Frye for the puck did not often come their way. Howard Irish, of Toronto, was referee and was not worked very hard for fouls and offsides were very scarce. The teams werecomposed as follows :-Orillia-- Hanley, Tait, Pace, Curran, Blaine, New- ton, O Connors. Collingwood--Fryer, Rule, Elworthy. Fair, Toner, Brown and An- comnanied by very few of their supporters, so they depended for their cheers from Bar- rieites. who showed, their complete neu- trality by cheering vociferously for Orillia when lst gaol was taken, but for Coiling- supporters was D.
