The ages of persons convicted for indictable offences in 1895 were as follows :-790 offences by persons under 16 years; 906 be- tween 16 and 21; 2,276 between 21 and` 40; 724 from 40 upwards. The occupations of the persons committed were as follows :--Aaricultu_rel, 247; commercial, 585; domestic, 186; in- dustrial, 672 ; professional, 4-9; labor- ers, 2,165. Of 5,474 convictions, 90 persons had superior education ; 3,891, elementary ; 769 could neither read nor write; and 724 cases were not given. 1,337 married persons were convicted ; 3,308, single; and 120, widowed. ' A double drowning accident occurred at the foot of Balsam chute, on the 3` north branch of the Muekoka river, on t Monday afternoon, lst in_st., when Ed- - ward and George Parker, sons of Wil- I liam Parker, of Parkersville, were . drowned. The story of the accident is as follows :-A party, including the -~ father and two sons, were deer hunting. George Parker shot and badly wound- - ed a deer near the river. Parker wore a belt lled with cartridges, and prob-` ably the weight was two much for him, as he immediately sank. His father, who was on the shore near by, saw his son sink and gave the alarm, and Ed- -: ward, the Elder brother, came to his i assistance, jumping in after him, but 7 he, toodisappeared almost immediately. _= An attempt was made to recover the bodies, but owing to a swift current and a bad eddy at the foot of the chute they were unsuccessful until an hour afterwards, when the body of Edward was recove're_d.i The body of George has not yethcen found; `Edward was- married and leaves a young wife and one child Rev.
