The brigade was soon on the spot but the re had been put out before their arrival. It appears that a spark from a. re place in a bed room had ignited the bed clothes. By the_ presence of mind of a young woman, a domesticin Mrs. Campbell s employ the re was stifled. Mrs. Campbell speaks in glowing terms of this young woman s courage and promptitude by which the re was conned to one room and the house saved from des- truction. All the members of the council were `there we are told, with the exception of Reeve Bothwell. Some of the retired mem- bers were there also After the inner man hadbeen strengthened by the bivalves there wasaood of eloquence for an hour or two which was quite interesting and instructive. Our young man not being there has to depend on other sources of information, but he learns that the time spent was a social one and proved the young members of the present council quite able to let the other members see that they know their duty and mean to do it.
