www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Wednesday, February 26, 2014 | 10 Town pilot project puts cash into heritage property renewal by Julia Le Oakville Beaver Staff TM Call for details Residents could see more heritage properties around town revitalized thanks to a new pilot project recently announced by the Town of Oakville. At the Ontario Heritage Trust Awards ceremony at Town Hall last Tuesday (Feb. 18), the municipality revealed it is launching a three-year pilot Heritage Grant Program to assist heritage property owners with the cost of restoring and maintaining their properties. "This grant supports the efforts of those property owners who have made the commitment to enhance Oakville's beautiful historic buildings," said Mayor Rob Burton, adding the Town is committed to maintaining Oakville's historical character. Each year, the program will dole out up to $80,000 for projects that include restoring historic windows, doors and porches, repairing historic masonry and woodwork and refurbishing decorative architectural detailing, millwork and trim. Grants will cover up to 50 per cent of eligible restoration costs to a maximum of $15,000 for each approved project. This year's applications are being accepted Feb. 26-April 11. Those interested are asked to contact Susan Schappert, a heritage planner with the Town of Oakville, by calling 905-845-6601, ext. 3870 to confirm eligibility prior to submitting an application. Submissions will be reviewed by Town staff, along with a working group from the Heritage Oakville Advisory Committee. Final approval will be made by Town council. Grant recipients will be notified by July. The funding for the program was made possible in part by developer contributions to the Heritage Fund. For more information, visit www.oakville.ca.
