The roadway itself would also look better if properly levelled and the mud cleared oil` when required. As the prin- cipal street of the town it should be made as attractive as possible, so that strangers would not leave Barrie with an idea that the place was somewhat behind the age. _There are other streets in the town require looking to in the same manner. Searching parties have -been out almost every (Y during the past week with a view of re- oovering the bodies of the two young men, Selby Allan and Donald W. Mclnnes, who were drowned in Kenipenfeldt buy on August 3rd. The search has been a most dili ent one, `but there is a. settled conviction in t e minds of those who have hadlong experience on the waters of Lake Simcoe that the task is a ho e- less one. There is evidently a strong un er tow at the month of the bay near where the accident occurred, and us On t. Kerr, of the steamer Enterprise, ex resse it-`` It was never known of Anyone eing drowned at the upper end of the bay whose body was after- wards recovered." Capt. Kerr himself has msde every enquiry among ple residing in the immediate neighborho of the accident, but has received no tidin of the _lost ones. Several parties from Hnmi ton have also aided in the search for the bodies with the same re- sult. It is very sad for the bereaved parents to know this. They have the heartfelt sym- gzthy of the community, many of whom ha_ve en nntirinq in their efforts to nd the bodies of the young men. It is just possible they may yet be found, but the chances are that the under current has swept them nway and they will not be seen again. _ ~ A very sad drowning accident occurred on Sunday forenoon, whereby a romisin young lad named John R. H. Ridd)ell, a e ' 8 years _met with his death. It appears t at Mrs. Riddell who is here on a visit, and is staying at the Queen's. Hotel, went to Church in the morning lenvin her son at the hotel. The boy after -his mot er had left the hotel went (low 0 the wharf at the foot of Mul- caster stree . He was seen playing around, xlusil he alga) Svyianted ;oFgo for arzail wlith two a s nam aw an oster. ey' owever went out in the boat leaving young Riddell on 'tho wharf. Soon after this a young man named Thomas McCarthy went to the wharf when he saw the body of Riddellat the bet- tom of the bay. the d th of water at this place is about six feet. cCarthy rowed over` ro tke yacht Dauntless, on board of which the lads Foster and Show were. and the three of ` them then rowed back and recovered the body of young Riddell. Life was extinct, and a stretcher having been rocured the body was taken to the Queen's otel. The grief of the mother was heartrending on seeing the dead body of her only son, whom she had seen an hour or two before in the full enjoyment of health and boyhood happiness. The deceased boy was grandson of Mr. John Riddell, stock- broker, of Hamilton, and his` father, whose Christian name is also John, was formerly in the audit oice of the G. W. R., at Hamilton. Mrs. Riddell. accompanied by friends, left` Barrie` on Monday morning for `Chicago, where she resides. The remains of deceased was forwarded by same train. ovloollolott rarna W0llatli...........o Exh`Al'............- ongkan-rt `Maren. On_Monday a match was played at the Park between the Barrie G. C., and the St. George : 0. 0., of Toronto, which resulted in a victory for the visitors in one innings and 42 runs to spare. The elding of the home club was evidently dernoralized. Several easy catches were missed, and their play through- out was very weak. Richardson, Campbell, and Dr. Watson batted fairly, and the ,ret two handled the leather with effect. On the visitors side the bowling of Wilson, and Wol- latt was destructive, while Shipman, Dixon and Plant were in good batting form.
