THAT was quite a breeze the Town Coun- cil raised about itself the other night over tho infringement of its prerogatives. Mr. Dickinson, contrary to the law, in such cases made and provided, and agahst the Peace and Dignity of Her Majesty the Queen, Her Crown and Kingdom, had laid pine planks where the Council had ordered hemlock. It was a vile oifence and stank iu the nostrils of the sapient Municipal legislators. The liberties and prerogatives of the corporation of the Town of Barrie were in danger but the Council rose to the occasion. In. fact several of the sedate councillors rose very numerously. Mr. Dickinson was undoubtedly, wrong in the course he had taken. and-fully, deserved the censure he received. Undoubtedly what he did he believed to be in the best interests of the town but he must neverthe- less obey the commands of the Council. However, we will be greatly mistaken if, before the close of the summer, the Coun- cil will not see cause to wish they had left Mr. Dickinson alone. Hemlock plank laid lengthwise will never make a passable ' sidewalk, once the plank becomes dry. If the Town is not forced to replace that hem- lock with something better before two years we are willin to eat leeks. One partiou- ' larly funny t ing on Monday night was the fact that the Council never discovered throughout the whole discussion that Mr. Dickinson had doubly` oifended ; inasmuch as the Council had ordered three-inch planks and only two-inch were used. They discovered it next day however, when it- wae too late to say anything, and since hen those councillors have been {lust rear- ng up and down town seeking w om they may nd somebody.
