Compared with an American political convention the meeting of the League was a model of order, decorum and despatch. Furthermore, we have seen more disorder by far in a Methodist Con- ference, or a Presbyterian or Episcopal Synod, than the telegraphic despatches show .to have occurred in Philadelphia. It may not be out of place right here to remind the citizens that, the park having been closed for such purposes, there are no grounds whereon to hold athletic sports of any kind. There are no lacrosse or cricket grounds, no place to hold a Queens Birth- day Dominion Day or any other celebra- tion, no place in fact where an assemblage of people can be held or sports carried on. It would be well therefore for the represen- tatives of the people to consider, whether, in the interests, not only of the youth but .of the citizens generally grounds should not be procured that would be adaptable for all these purposes, as well as for the hold- ing of an agricultural exhibition. The no- cessity of having these grounds as near the ' centre of the town as possible is `too evi- dent to require pointing out. We may have something further to say on this subject in a future issue. The barbaric Zulu was taken to England, fed on beefsteak, photographed, and given a plug hat, and then returned to his subjects, who very properly resented this inovation upon the style of hat their fathers were, and the result is war. As the opposing parties are of nearly equal strength, and as the only method of fighting known to Zulu s is to stand a short distance apart and kill each other there is every prospect of this being a second edition of the Kilkenny cats. uu uuu '1`m: Allistou Herald understands that a wood type factory is to be established in that village.
