Police advising extra caution continued from p. 1 thief went through bathroom drawers and toiletry bags and speculated they may also have been after medication. The Oakville break-in follows one on Feb.10 in Milton and another on Feb. 11 in Acton. Police believe they are connected and the homes are targeted based on information published in newspapers and available online. In one of the break-ins, a vehicle believed to have been driven by the suspect was captured on video. It was a black or dark blue minivan similar to a 2001-2005 Chevy Venture. It appears to have five-spoke wheels with the hubcaps missing. A female suspect, described as being white, 30-40 years old, with an average build was observed in this vehicle in the area of one of the entries. Police remind people to lock windows and doors and are encouraging those attending funerals to have a neighbour or friend watch their homes while they are gone. Residents are also being asked to contact police if any suspicious persons or vehicles are observed. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Oakville Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4747, ext. 2216 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Keep hydrants clear: fire department The Oakville Fire Department is reminding people to clear snow and ice from fire hydrants on or near their property. In the event of a blaze, the hydrants must be visible and accessible so firefighters can do their life-saving work. "Clear and quick access to a fire hydrant can save precious time during an emergency," advised the Town of Oakville Fire Chief Lee Grant. "We need help from the community to make sure hydrants are kept clear, especially after heavy snowfalls." Grant said ideally, there should be a threefoot clearance around the hydrant to allow firefighters room to connect hoses. Private contractors clearing snow from commercial parking lots and driveways should be extra careful not to bury hydrants. While it is the responsibility of property owners to clear snow away from fire hydrants on private property, residents who are elderly or physically unable to clear the snow can call Halton Region at 905-8256000 for assistance. 5 | Thursday, February 20, 2014 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com GRAND OPENING SALE inside today's Spotlight Sports Beaver www.insideHALTON.com 6 31 Health Classified 27 36 Frescho, Food Basics, Metro, Listen Up Canada, M&M Meats, Hoopers Pharmacy, Rabba, Bulk Barn, Real Estate, Bath Depot, Real Canadian Superstore, Lowes Canada, Emporium Auction, Hudson's Bay Co., Leon's, No Frills, Fortinos, Staples, Home Depot, Bouclair, Athletic Locker, Centennial Windows, Canadian Tire, Longo's, Best Buy, Desjardins, Home Depot, Future Shop, Canadian Tire, Pharma Plus, Maritime Travel, Future Shop, Walmart, Reliance, Rexall, Toys R Us, Target, Brick Mattress, Drug Trading, Best Buy, Shoppers Drug Mart, Sobeys, The Brick, Whiskas *All flyers not necessarily delivered to all homes For home delivery & customer service call 905-631-6095, 5300 Harvester Rd., Burlington New subscriptions call 905-631-6095 or subscribe online at www.oakvillebeaver.com We Offer · Comfortable, Orthopedic Footwear · Custom Orthotics · Compression Garments · Body Braces · Women's Health Products · Body Support Products 10% OFF Footwear from $89.99 ENTIRE STORE* FREE ASSESSMENT, ADJUSTMENTS AND FITTING!
