Halton community newspapers up for 13 provincial industry awards Metroland Media's Halton Division community newspapers have been named top-three finalists for a slew of provincial industry awards including Editor of the Year and Photographer of the Year. In total, the Oakville Beaver, Burlington Post, and Milton Canadian Champion received 13 nominations from the Ontario Community Newspaper Association (OCNA) for its 2013 Better Newspaper Awards. Photographer and Editor nominations Nikki Wesley has been nominated for Photographer of the Year while Don Ford, managing editor of the Burlington Post, is a finalist for Editor of the Year, both prestigious awards in the field of journalism. Wesley , known for her passion for storytelling through her images, has been a photojournalist for seven years and came to the Halton Division in 2008. Ford, a 27-year veteran newsman and winner of multiple editorial writing awards, has been at the thrice-weekly Post since the fall of 2000. Competitive industry "These nominations reflect the hard work of our talented editorial and advertising teams," said Halton Division Editor in Chief Jill Davis. "It is a competitive industry and I am really proud to be working alongside such dedicated individuals. In particular, I have worked with Don for more than 18 years, so I am pleased to see him honoured in this way."
