Jon Kuiperij Sports Editor sports@oakvillebeaver.com Sports 11 | Wednesday, February 19, 2014 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com "Connected to your Community" Do or die for Blades Team needs win Friday to qualify for OJHL playoffs Six months and 52 games after it began, the Ontario Junior Hockey League season will come down to one night for the Oakville Blades. The Blades need a victory over the St. Michael's Buzzers in their regularseason finale Friday at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex to keep their playoff hopes alive. At worst, a win over St. Mike's would would earn Oakville the right to play the Toronto Jr. Canadiens in a one-game playoff to determine the eighth and final post-season spot in the South/West Conference. And if the Mississauga Chargers -- two points ahead of the Blades -- don't earn a point in their final two games this weekend, Oakville could finish seventh in the conference while the Chargers and Jr. Canadiens would play off for eighth. The Blades (22-26-4) have remained in post-season contention by winning their last two games, including a wild 7-6 overtime triumph Monday in Burlington. Oakville led the 10-35-6 Cougars 6-3 with seven minutes left in regulation, but Burlington -- a team that has been shut out seven times this season, including four consecutive games in December -- scored twice in the final 2:02 of the third perid to force an extra session. "That was up, down, all-around, but it obviously ended up how we wanted it to," said the Blades' Mark Bzowey, who scored the winner three minutes into OT on a long wrister from the high slot. "You learn what character you have in the room (in must-win games.) All year, we've known we have a skilled team, and that confidence is boosted when your players show up when they need to." see Young on p.12 Mark Bzowey (in dark blue) slides the puck through Burlington Cougars goalie Jeremy Currie for his first of two goals Monday at Burlington's Wave Twin Rinks. Bzowey also scored three minutes into overtime, giving the Oakville Blades a 7-6 victory and keeping the team's Ontario Junior Hockey League playoff hopes alive. | Steven Der-Garabedian -- Special to the Beaver Register Now Oakville Little League - 2014 Youth Baseball Registration Register Now Division Age Blastball 4 T-Ball 5-6 7-8 T-Ball Minor A 8-9 Minor AA 10 Minor AAA 11 Major 12 Int / Junior 13 - 14 Senior 15 - 17 Big League 17 - 20 WHERE: OAKVILLE LITTLE LEAGUE FIELDHOUSE, 425 Cornwall Road WHEN: SATURDAY, February 22nd & March 1st 9:00AM to 3:00PM The largest youth baseball organization in Oakville.
