C.\N.\l)A A Word from Zellers To the People of Barrie Probably you have already heard that there has been a change of ownership in the store formerly operated by Desmarteaux Limited and that the new owners are Zellers Limited. Under the new ownership, various new lines of merchandise will be introduced; and in order to create a convenient and pleasing setting for the greater varieties of Things to Buy, it will be neces- sary, after Saturday, May 4th, to keep the store closed for several days. After the desired changes have been effected, the store will re-open as: In the meantime, however, we feel that the folks of Barrie are entitled to know something more than the mere name of a business which hopes soon to enjoy its patronage, and we take this opportunity of telling you some- thing about ourselves and the type of store we will operate. - Zellers Limited is a Canadian Company, incorporated in 1931 under a Dom- inion Charler, operates in Canada only and is not controlled by or affiliated with any other Canadian or foreign organization. The President and Founder of the Company, Walter P. Zeller, is a Canadian and a Gentile, whose ancestry in the province of Ontario dates back over one hundred years. He was born on the farm originally settled by his grand- father in Waterloo County in 1831, and was educated in the public and high schools of Kitchener. The type of store the Company operates is distinctive in that no attempt is made to confine the price range in the manner of the Price Limit Store, nor to carry all the diversified lines of the Department Store. This departure from established practice permits the Company to offer a wide assortment of general merchandise, both fashionable and staple, commonly known as Moderately Priced and in Popular Demand. l(allllIl'-`I. .I lI(T['(7lfVlL_!`_)lK: :1 plan` for fresh vL'g::~ tables for clniry ` prud- The assortment will include Men's and Boys Furnishings; Ready-to-Wear, Millinery, Accessories, Hosiery and Lingerie for Women and Children; Housewares, Smallwares, Piece Goods and Toilet Goods. The Company s policy is based on the firm belief that its success in Barrie depends entirely on its ability to become an asset to the community. In conclusion, may we add a word of apology: we trust the closing of the store for several days will not cause inconvenience to Barrie Shoppers. Every effort will be made to rush the alterations, and announcement of the STORFXS RE-OPENING (late will be made shortly in these columns.
