His client, he said. was under the impression that the Chief had given her until May 1. The sign, he repeated, did not in- terfere with either vehicular or pedestrian traffic. `The sign is a very important factor in Mrs. Beatty`s `business. It was almost `hopeless for her to do business without this sign and application had been made to council to per- mit it to remain there. The days the sign was down business at Dreamland fell off 50 per cent. People had no means of knowing what show was on and therefore i went somewhere else. It was true there was a technical contraven- tion of the `bvlaw, but it was no worse than the case of the man ; who drives on the rst day of Jan- 1 uar,v with the previous year's _` markers on his auto. |'I'\L....- -con- -an An;-nun 4-A AI\I1+ IHETKBTS 011 I118 auw. `There was no desire to out the town.` He asked that the matter be let stand until Council took ac-. tion. The merchants there are` observing the half-holiday from be- ginning of May until the end of October, and they are at present considering compulsory closing for the entire year excepting the month of December. All we are ask- ing is to have Wednesday afternoon during the months of June, July August, and September. I am only ex-press-ing the opinions of all the clerks in Barrie when I say that we feel We are entitled to the half- holiday. Not many in this vicinity seem to question the advisability of the pro- posed 'by-law. There is no question in my mind but that some time in the perhaps distant uture,.pa.s- teurizing of milk will become un- popular and will not be compul- sory, even though that measure may be adopted now. Some dealers apparently strike the attitude of being willing to foregothe loss of their business if it is to be of help to the community. It is apparent that most of us must try everything once, (perhaps to our ultimate ro- gret) and therefore it would be in keeping to try this out. t nnnran I am nfrinflv in favour ! Keeping 120 [!'y [1113 out. Of course, I am strictly in favour of sanitation and the Health Dept. have done much to improve same. Also the dairy service We get in town is worthy of favorable com- ment. We Chiropractors have con- siderable work on our hands in establishing our own science, and while we are in sympathy with any movement to defend public li- berty, we do not take the initiative in this matter because. in so doing. we may be branded as disturbers and people do not like their peace of mind upset even though there may be virtue in knowledge. `Duo-av-rihncr vnnnlnnfinfl!--!FhA AH: may [ie virtue In Know-ieuge. Regarding vaccination:-4'1`ho An- ti-Vaccination league is demanding our support, but the same thing applies. It is a. citizens movement and not the opposition of one pro- fession against another. Certainly we do not agree with the theory of vaccination, but to vigorously op- pose it might "hamper the progress of establishing our own science. It vaccination does the harm claimed. it is defeating its own purpose, and while it may reduce the amount of a specific disease, it tends to create others which of course creat- es work for the physician of which we get. our share. Therefore you can readily see that any opposi- tion we do show is not for selfish motives. mt.-."-. nun 4-.1-h.:m -nnh-2+: I-An. 1-hat motives.
