Will its be too cold for. the speckled beauties to bite?"ABut there is another question of more importance. Where can one go now to Afinda. stream where you 4. could expect to catch enoughfor a decent meal? -WV-it'h the streams nowadays beinig so easily and'quiok- ly reached by motor the fa'ct,1s they are just about depleted and the wonder is there are any left in any of our good old trout streams. Bu_t I presume a. few of the sports will try their luck at any rate and enjoy the outing, for c-msidering the weather con-ditions there. is not much chance of them `being eaten up" with mosquitoes. - - ` Wit~h`t-he continued north Winds that have prevailed during the en- tire month 0`! `April, together with heavy frosts each -night the fields of wheat and clover have suffered severely and very little plowing and seeding have been done. There has been practically no growth and those who are short of feed and naturally expected to turn out stock on pasture are very `hard hit at pre- sent. S`o much so. that quite a num- ber have been sold and shipped dur- . ing the past fortnight. The Spring season in this part of Canada seems to be growing more bajcklward each year and those cold north wxin-ds ` seem to chase down from Hudson ' ing. l Bay no matter how eanly we get a break up, which .sh`atters the expec- tations of the majority "of farmers who look forward to an early seed- 1 In 7 rIIL-,,,,._,, 4.... ..:I_._;. .1` Judge To the Thornton corres-pendent `I would like to state that thougha lov- er of nature. I .have not enjoyed as yet this Spring, one stroll through the woods w.here you could really say there was anything to enjoy. Last week I took the spade and strolled to the bush, dug up a few cedars and young spruce for hedge purposes, and during the operation. I was weaning a `heavy winter coat and mitts. I encountered ice in many places and all I could hear `in the woods was the singing of an oc- casional frog`. `The cold winds all April with her showers of snow in place of rain, have not done much to aid -Old Nature in bringing -forth even the little Ma-yf-lowers, and the quietness of the woods was even more not'i.ce'able by the absence of * our little 'friends, the birds. which are -no dou'bt held back somewhere by these continued cold winds. Yes, Thornton, I certainly enjoy Nature in all our surroundings, and enjoy going to the woods and basking in the sunshine on some nice grassy knoll and listening to the singing of the different birds as they flit from tree to tree.` Oh, yes. there is a lot to observe and a lot to `be thankful for in the old world, but no doubt, there are some who are not even thankful they are alive.
