One Hornets team edges another in tourney final The Oakville Hornets novice DS2 team edged the novice DS1 Hornets 1-0 in the final of the recent Mississauga Chiefs girls' hockey tournament. Hockey Briefs Oakville defeated North Halton Twisters 3-1, Ancaster Avalanche 4-1 and Mississauga Chiefs 2-1 earlier in the tournament, also tying Burlington Barracudas 3-3. Members of the DS2 Hornets are Lauren Berlettano, Mary Foster, Keana Seibt, Emma Erceg, Jamie Blondin, Paige Semeniuk, Jenna VanDinter, Hannah Bloomfield, Cassie Crawford, Kate Roberts, Tegan MacAuley, Hannah Markwart, Jelena Brozic, Caleigh Johnston, Claire Bielik, Megan Patterson and Taylor Belchetz. Minor peewee Pens winners in Welland The Oakville minor peewee Penguins tripled up host Welland 6-2 to cap an undefeated showing at the recent Ernie Clayton Memorial Peewee Tournament. Members of the Penguins are Andrew Young, Ayden Turnbull, Brett Walker, Michael Scott, Steven Kong, Dylan Gale, Matthew Brown, Gabe Vespa, Johnny Benham, Liam Ecclestone, Gabe Vespa, Will Conn, Ryan Pritchard, Thomas Ieraci, Adam Green and Jack Williams. The coaching staff includes Mario Vespa, Kelly Curry, Doug Walker, Darren Young and Craig Williams. Vipers strike Newmarket in Bradford final Jacob Pierog and Caelan Harley scored goals as the Oakville minor atom Vipers edged the Newmarket Redbirds in the final of the recent Bradford Bulldogs Blue & Gold Classic. The Vipers also defeated Caledonia Sharks 2-1, Ayr 9-1 and Newmarket Romano Panini 3-0 during the tournament. Also contributing to the win were Zack Koulovasilopoulos, Mitchell Arnold, Ben Othen, Tomas Serrano, Sam Bollinger, William Forbes, Leo Colabrese, Ryan Calicchia, Jensen Booler, Connor Susla, Mathew Hawkins, Griffin Moore, Jack Vermeeren and Tyton Karimloo. Nick Koulovasilopoulos coaches the team, assisted by Chris Pierog, David Hartley and Joe Susla. Ben Colabrese is the trainer.
