Our efforts in this respect were rewarded at the Dis- trict Convention in 1926 when we were gr-esented with the Cup for the club aving the best average attendance during the year. The same year we won the Efficiency `Cup for _the District and were awarded honorable mention when we came second in Efficiency Contest for Kiwanis International. It was a great honor to come second when we were in competition with over 1000 clubs covering Canada and -the United States. Below is the_dining-`hail. , ` v to used by all I(iwu.n.`s Clubs. - . The first Kiwanis Club, was formed in` Detroit. January 21. I915. and lust seven years later (during the sum- ,mer of 1522) n group-of Barrie business 'and pi-nfmsional men met with repre- sentatives of the Downtown Toronto Club and were thoroughly. enthused, with the possibilities of Kiwanis. We asked the Toronto Club to sponsor, a Club in Barrie and Inn very short time a Field Representative from .Ki- .- wanla International `was workinz up a, ' Club hero. He had very little difficulty ' in sectzii-lg the quota necessary for the [oi-ma on of-a club and on Sentember 13.1922. we received our charter with George Hubb-rd us the first Presiden `and m,\'seif`us Secretary. Being the bwhr club of this wnndor- played on members. - Ladies` Nights are a big feature with `our Ciub.and w e entertain tiie ladies -regularly in true Kiwanis style. The money tor this is donated by Kiwanis members and many a. noor The by many poor mm Kiwanis under_his leadership was 1 sure or success. We sponsored a new i club` in Owen Sound and we are nroud ` to state that all three clubs sponsored by us are thriving and a credit to this wonderful organization. . While we are serious when at work we believe the old adage that "all work and no play makes Jack a. dult boy." so our luncheon: are enlivened with good singing and often good jokes are played members. . Ladies` Niirhts are a bin feature with -Arne united states. The :year soon slipped-.by and we , were holding annual elections again. ~ For 1926 our members elected Dr. Len. Simpson as President and as he had the support of every member behind him Kiwanis under his ( sponsored new Justified` existence. roads oi.` life. _ , During the summer the Club mem-_ bers personally built and painted bath , houses at Barrie and Allandale which have been greatly used and enjoyed by the boy of the town. The material used wasupplied by our Club. in December, 1923. at the annual election of officers, Dr. Bill Lewis was elected President. His inaugural ad- dress was mdsfboptimistic and it was soonevery noticeable thatthe same good support was being extends to our second President as was g ven our first. By now we had found ourselves and results were beginning to show. for during the year we sponsored new clubs in Orlllia and Midland. It was during this year that our surgeon mem- .bers operated on two underprivileged children giving their services entirel free of charge with the Club attending `to hospital. and, convalescent charges. Early in the year, one of the boys under our care met a tragic death when he `was killed by a falling wail. Our mem- bers attended the funeral of this young led in a body and took complete charge of all expenses. A non-Klwanian made the statement that the part we took in this unfortunate affair completely to our under-nrivilezed child `and m,\'self`us Secretary. Being bwby of this wonder- 'ful organization. it naturally took us _ some time to find ourselves. but we were most fortunate in securing excel- lent speakers for our weekly luncheon: and with the ready and willlng-aaslst- ance received-from other clubs we soon felt at home. In December. 1922. at the annual election of- officers." it was thought`advlsabie to return the same officers and executlveefor the enaulnz year and the wisdom of that decision was soon apparent. As one of our main obiectlvea In in was seen apparent. " one main objectives is to assist the under-privileged child, we, decided to give our best efforts in staging a local mlnstrel show. for the b~-neft of this work. This proved such_ a success at we have made it an an-= ygyal unde taking. The proceeds each` V year have` been very gratifying and we t have been able to assist many a child ` and worthy farfily over the rough roads of life. ` Durim: the summer this (`.Inh mam- K`-I-W-A-N-I-S 18- -derhied from the lndlun word K~ E-1:}-.'W~A-N-E~ E moaning WE BUILD which Is the mot- to used by all I(1wu.n.`s Kiwanis Club was rm;mna' I nvvun l`Ul\I1ls)rlIlV\JD RUGS, SQUARES AND `SCATTER MATS ~ ` OILGLOTH SQUARES AND CONGOLEUM RUGS ' LINDLEUMS, '98:: uq. yd.
