One was the ordination. service of the rst Bishop of Abys- sinia in the time of Athanasius III, about 250 A.D., and the other was a proclamation` issued by Theodore I`, `the third king of A-byssinia. Iuxaut: ur new 1UI'K. - - ......u KI UIIC zusypuau. `1 In conclusion, Dr. Mercer told of a discovery in 1905,-which, if proved genuine, will -prove to be the most priceless work of art in the world. In 1905, Bedouins at `Antioch, `exploring under the ruins of the rst Christian cathedral in the interests of a French `jewelry rm, found `a silver chalice. It was in two parts, the outer very beautifully carvediand the inner part ,9. simple. thin silver cup. At the out- "break of the war the chalice was sent to New York, where one of the great- est experts in Greek art has since been working on it. He has recently reported that'it seems certain `that the outer part is a piece of Greek art of the middle of the rst century AD. and he suggests that the inner piece -may be the Holy Grail-the cup used by our Lord at the Last Supper. A society in Chicago is raising $5,000,000 with which to pur-` chase the chalice to put in their cath- edral and a similar effort is being made in New York.` * 'I\_, If yuan-A) uv.Lvl.C \JlIl.'1.|u .mt K.rcheology, stated Dr.Mercer,' is just in its infancy. Discoveries are `being made in the land of the Hit- tites. For many years it was thought thatthese people were `just a little. tri'be in the north of Syria, but it -is found that they were` one of the great empires of the ancient world, acyoss whose country the Indo-Europeans, from whom the white race is-des_cend- ed, passed. Their script has not yet been de-ciphered, but they 'wrote much in a cuneiform style similar to that used 'by the Egyptians.
