Run? 23. 1925. RUSK--In loving memory of `Vernoh 1?`. `Dual: whn lnff 11:: Wnh QR 1919, 11 V CD. I . Sunday's Music V ,1` Seldom has St. Andrew s choir been heard to better advantage than i on this anniversary. `The morning ` anthem was Send Out Thy Light , (Gounod) and those in the evening were The Gloria from . The 3 Pilot Me (Helen Bidwell). `In the ; morning Mrs. Anderson sang My . World and Emory Hill gave I Can- . not Trace the Way. The male quar-~ . tette were heard at the evening ser- r vice, their number being When the Mists Have Rolled Away.' ' A Congregational Tea The congregational teaon Monday, , given for the adult members and ad- herents, was `one of the largest af- fairs of its kindin the history of the church, over 370 being served at the Twefth Mass and Jesus Saviour, ` ' tables. which were prettily decorated . with owers, candles, etc. --A special table reserved for soldiers had a score of these ex-service men. During the tea very enjoyable music was given by the B.-C.I. girls orchestra. Be- fore and after the excellent tea serv- ed by the Ladies Aida pleasant time was spent in social converse. There was also a delightful, though inform- al, programme. w_ith.Rev. J. S. Shortt as chairman. Solos were rendered by Miss Ross, Emory Hill and Trueman Williams and a duet byMiss Marshall enthusiastically applauded. Short speeches were made by several men and thanks voted to the orchestra and others who took part as well as to the Ladies Aid. Rev. AW. F. McConnell", Dominion 0rganizer for the Presby- terian Church Association, who was . passing through town and stayed over and Mrs. Hardy; all of which were for the tea, made a short address. .GORDON- In loving memory" of Jane Gordongbeloved Wife of Joseph Gor- don, who died March 1, 1923. A loving mother, true and kind, No friend so true on earth we'll find, For us she always did her best, ` God called her home and gave her rest. 1--r.-_I_ _ __ :I _ -4 .1 . _ A. .91.. 'I'_ .._l1-- uvs 9c I. 15110 lllblllllll Ill V G1 I In the hidden `life is found the se- cret of christian strength; What the New Testamentmeans by being born again is having the life moulded -in God so that it will issue spontaneous- ly in right. This is the difference between reformation and regenera- tion. Reformation deals with the outside; regeneration deals with the life at the fountain-head. When the life is moulded in God there is no need of a lot of rules to restrain from doing sundry things; the hidden life will be the guide. Though the hidden life is all that counts, the out- ward life should not be neglected, for by attending to the outward life the inner life is gradually built up until it reaches a point where it is wrought into the fabric of our lives. In this way are built strong christian char- acters, for to be hidden with "Christ 1i_n God is the secret of all strong ives. ' C1.-..'.`I_--!.. It has. a way of chiseling` thee countenance. ' We read it and trace character from it. This is the secret of` the strange way_ we are at- tracted or repelled by people. We of- ten see people whose badness is stamped on their faces. More often, however, We are attracted to people, which shows that most people are I good at heart. , ` D1111` 501:1` :{- :11 V\Anl`:k`n I-A Ln.-A A--ul guuu GD 111351 In ' V `Paul said it is possible to have our hidden life so moulded that from it will ow unconsciously, spontaneous- ly and naturally Christ-like thoughts, words and deeds. To have our lives so moulded should be- the desire of every christian. When this is achiev- ed the christian life can be lived with- out trying--spontaneously. People should not get discouraged if they cannot do this, because we cannot al- ways do right without trying. Yet men and women are not christians in the highest sense until they can. A person has not mastered a language until he can think in it; so a christian has not reached the degree which he should attain until he does the right thing unconsciously. So long as a person has to stop and think before he can decide what is right, his hid- den life has not been developed as it should be. Sometimes it takes a great crisis to show us what we are, be- cause we are what we are below the line of consciousness altogether. The life is not hidden in God until itdoes right instinctively.
