Fellow Oakville curler skipping U.S. continued from p.26 out the Jones rink. She had never played with any members of the Jones rink prior to filling in with the skip's leave, though she squared off against Jones as far back as 1995 when Wall (then Harmark) and Jones skipped opposing rinks in a four-team qualifier to represent Canada at the world junior championship. Their paths crossed several times over the years, including 2008 when Jones edged Middaugh's rink in the Tournament of Hearts semifinal, on her way to the Canadian and world titles. "It's such a small community at the highest level, you know everyone," Wall said. She isn't kidding. Last year at the Oakville Curling Club, Wall curled with Erika Brown, who will skip the U.S. entry at the Olympics. Now those two will meet again on the sport's biggest stage in Russia. And Wall is thankful to be there after she thought she'd thrown her final rock. "It's every athlete's dream, and in Canada, it's such a tough podium to climb to get that maple leaf on your back. There are so many good curlers who have put in so many years," Wall said. "I was thrilled to be asked and I'm glad they called back. It's definitely a dream come true." -- Herb Garbutt can be followed on Twitter @Herbgarbutt 27 | Friday, January 24, 2014 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Two Oakville bantam white house league teams, the Thunder Hawks (left) and Golden Eagles, defeated fellow local squads in the finals of recent tournaments.
