This is a week filled with fun activities and games that bring together our school community in support of Rotherglen Children's REACH Foundation. The Rotherglen Children's REACH Foundation is a charitable, student-led foundation, whose endowment fund is administered by the Oakville Community Foundation. The REACH foundation was started in 2008 and has been growing steadily since its inception. The Rotherglen Children's REACH Foundation provides our school with meaningful opportunities to educate and encourage our student body to be active citizens in our community. Each year, the interest garnered from the REACH Foundation endowment is used to fund our Grade Eight Legacy project. The Legacy project is a culminating experience born from our Character Education program and speaks to our larger school vision of "Inspired Hearts, Engaged Minds and Purposeful Lives". The Grade Eight students are charged with the important task of determining how the funds from the Foundation will be dispersed. The Legacy project takes its lead from the 8 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), set forth by the United Nations in 2000. With these goals in mind, the Grade Eight classes research local agencies that focus on one or more of the MDGs. Divided into groups, the students develop grant proposals that outline their organization's mission, their reason for choosing to support the organization and the impact our collective support would have on the community. The students then present their proposals to an advisory committee made up of Rotherglen students and teachers. Past Legacy Projects include support of Halton Food for Thought and Conservation Halton, Songbirds Meadow Project. Conservation Halton's Songbirds Meadow Project is one of the beneficiaries of Rotherglen's REACH charity. TO SCHOOL!
