I was saddened to learn of the passing of radio pioneer, the legendary Jean Caine, or Mrs. C as I affectionately called her when I had the privilege of working with her at CHWO from 1974 through 1986. Jean and her husband, Howard Caine, launched the White Oaks Stations, CHWO in 1956 when Oakville and surrounding area was still largely rural. When Howard passed away in the late We are unlikely to see the likes of the legendary Jean Caine again 1960s, Jean worked even harder to make Oakville's hometown radio station a family operation, for both staff and her son Michael. Jean launched CJMR in Mississauga and then managed to obtain the 740 frequency, which became Prime Time radio. Jean was a talented writer, broadcaster and visionary who had an affinity for people with disabilities. She was a down-to-earth person. In the fall and at Christmas, she loved my wife's homemade current jam on scones. And when a staff member had a new addition to the family, Jean was the first to ask for photos. Her adventures and stories related to her travels with her best friend Kai Parker were legendary. She lived life to the fullest and her legacy as a broadcaster are well known. Letter to the Editor 7 | Wednesday, January 15, 2014 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Mrs. C represented a pioneering generation that could successfully blend a successful business with family values and loyalty. Sadly, we will not see the likes of her again. God Bless you Mrs. C, you will always have a place in my heart. Barry Coe, CHWO 1974-86 Director, Community Relations & Resource Development, Mission Services of Hamilton Honesty was a great holiday gift On Dec. 23, I went shopping along Kerr Street. I was at Food Basics picking up the last of my groceries for the Christmas dinner. Of course, I bought quite a bit, and my shopping cart and another bag were overloaded. It wasn't until I was halfway down Kerr Street on my way home that I discovered my wallet was missing. I was devastated because I had cash in my wallet for my four grandchildren's birthdays. When I arrived at home, I saw I had missed a call from Bronte Village and Paint, where a very excited and happy Alessandra Rago told me her husband had found my wallet and it was at the store for me. I hope they had a wonderful Christmas This young couple made my Christmas the best ever. Their honesty was very much appreciated. Thank you both so very much.
