Inaugural Jingle Bell Run Dec. 1 Oakville's inaugural Jingle Bell Walk and Run is just around the corner. The holiday-themed, non-competitive event to raise money for the Arthritis Society Halton Peel Region takes place Sunday, Dec. 1. Although new to Oakville and Ontario, it has launched the holiday season in communities across Canada for nearly 20 years. "(Oakville) just seemed like a great place to do it," said Lorna Catrambone, community development manager for the local Arthritis Society chapter. The fundraiser is at Sheridan College's Oakville campus, 1430 Trafalgar Rd. Participants will meet in the S wing (SCAET) atrium and have the choice of a one-kilometre, 2k or 5k route. Participants will each receive a pair of jingle bells to wear during the event, as well as an Arthritis Society branded buff. Organizers also encourage participants to don their festive gear to show off their holiday spirit. The day also features entertainment and lunch. There will be prizes for those who raise $100 or more, and the name of anyone who brings in a new unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots or a nonperishable food item for Fareshare food bank will be entered into a draw. Organizers expect 100150 participants and hope to raise $30,000. Funds raised will be used to support Arthritis Society health and wellness programs, such as chronic pain management workshops, as well as fund education initiatives and research. Registration begins at 9 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. start. Registration costs $30 for adults, $15 for children under the age of 12, and $20 for students.
