This was not the first time Schisler and his colleagues at Hopedale Dental Care have donated the proceeds from professional teeth-whitening services to ErinoakKids in support of local children with disabilities. "Dr. Schisler has supported ErinoakKids through this fantastic initiative since 2007," Bridget Fewtrell, president and CEO, said in a press release. "With this year's gift, the total contribution now exceeds $62,000." For four months each year, hundreds of dental practices across Canada and the U.S. donate their time to professionally whiten teeth at a reduced cost. All the proceeds from this program go to children's charities, with half going to a local charity selected by each dentist. The fundraising initiative is a project of the Crown Council, "an alliance of dentists around the world who are committed to excellence in their fields and to serving their communities through charitable work," stated the release. Schisler is a member of the council. "In my view, ErinoakKids is the most effective children's charity in the region," he said in the release. "I know this donation will make a big difference in the lives of the children they serve." ErinoakKids Centre for Treatment and Development is a children's treatment centre, that serves more than 13,500 children and youths annually, who have physical and developmental disabilities, autism, communication disorders, blindness/low vision and hearing loss. Its mission is to help its clients achieve optimal levels of independence, learning, health and well-being.
