"I figure when people see me as Baby New Year, they'll remember that it's all for the Courage Brothers' Dip and to help support World Vision with a super great cause," he says. "I'm proud to help out in any way I can." Strok isn't the only one who remains tried and true to the dip's traditions. Chatham blues-rockers, That Whaling Band, have been providing live music for the event's patrons to enjoy since 2001. "It's wonderful to see regulars like John come back year after year and to have Whaling performing again at the dip," said event co-ordinator Cheryl Singleton. "They provide the perfect soundtrack to kick off the new year." The dip dates back to 1985 when founders Trent and Todd Courage were playfully dared by their mother to literally go jump in the lake. The Courage Polar Bear Dip has not only grown to see thousands of dippers join in for the fun of it, but also to take up the charitable cause of funding World Vision clean water The Chillin' Rockin' Polar Bears team, seen here, headed by Councillor Pam Damoff (front centre), is one of the many teams that take part in the annual Courage Polar Bear Dip at Coronation Park to raise money for water projects supported by World Vision.
