G. Sowden, presiding. Final plans were discussed for the Silver Medal Speaking Contest being held in the Sun- day School Auditorium of the United Church tomorrow (Fni- day) evening. Students, from the Newcastle and surrounding publie schools will be campet- ing. In addition ta the Public Speaking contest, schools ne- presented have been asked to supply onie musical number for the prognam and ht was decided ta have a period of community singing. Work Starts On Repairing Orono Arena ORONO-Work ta repair the Durham Central Agricultural Society Arena in Orono was ex- pected to begin this week. This building. was damaged by fire some time ago. Final arrangements wene ap- proved by the committee last week during a meeting in Or- ono Hydro office. The commit- tee consists of members from the Fair Board and Orono Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Wm. Irwin has undertak- en the pnoject with assistance from Mr. Roy Thompson af Les- kard. It ie expected that the outside sheil of the building will be completed within the ncxt two months. The .building will be extend- ed to the north some fourteen feet to give added space for dressing rooms, office and stor- age. A cellar is ta be placcd under the front portion in which will be placed the heating unîti and dressing raoms along with storage space for fair equîp- ment.*The arches inside which were only scanred by the fire are to, be repaired.
