Mrs. Sam Unbelieva'ble but, frue 0f Friendship Club The Christmas meeting of the Friendship Club was held in the Sunday School room of the United Church on Wednes- day evening December l5th with twenty-seven members and five guesta in attendance On entering the hall each member signed her naine and that of her Sunshine Sister to a tagged candy cane which was then hung on the Christmas tree which had been beautiful- ly decorated by Miss Verna Milligan and Mrs. Helen Ru- deil. The meeting was opened with a Christmas poem read by the President Mrs. Kay Powell and Thank You notes were read fromn Mrs. Wilma Scott and Mrs. Dickson. In ap- preciation cards were received from Audrey and Sheila Go- gerty and from Mrs. J. C. Han- cock and family. Durîng a short business period it was decidcd the executive should take charge of the January meeting. The program, in charge of Mrs. Lena Graham~s group op- ened with a worship period. The Scripture Lesson, read by Mrs. Graham followed by the singing of the carol "Joy tothe World',' and Mrs. Kay Powell led the group ini prayer. "The First Christmas Tree" a read- îng by Mrs. Ruth Perrin was followed by another carol "The First Noel" sung by the whole group. The speaker for the occasion, Mrs. M. C. Fisher gave a very intèresting address on the sub- ject "Light". Following the worship ser- vice a "Snow"' contest was con- ducted by Mrs. Margaret Rud- man and Christmas carols were sung until the arrivai of Santa Claus. St. George's Church held- its final meeting for 1954 at the home of Mrs. John Ganrod the week before Christmas when the members enjoyed an evening o! singing Christmas Carols fol- lowed by refreshments topped of! with a lovely cake and i ce cream which was very much enjoyed by the girls. The lucky winner o! the Christmas cake whicb was made and donated to St. George's W.A. by Mrs. Ernest Alldread, was Mrs. D. R. Dewd- ney. The St. George's Sunday School Christmas Tnee and Concert was held ini the Panish Hall on Thursday evening, De- cemben 3th. There was a large audience and evenyone, includ- ing the performers, thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The pnognam opened with the Bethlehem tableau and thz singing o! Christmias Carols followed by recitations presen- ted by the smnaller members of the Sunday School. A verv pnetty number was presented by the members .of Gayle Tho- nmas' dancing class and was fol- lowed by the song "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" sung by four cousins. The beautiful carol, "O Holy Night" was sung by a gnoup of girls a!ter which the members o! the Girls Auxiliary present- ed a skit entitled "Caught in the Act". All members o! the Sunday School joined in the singing o! "White Christmas" and "Jin- gle Belis" at the close o! which Santa Claus burst in through the door and started to hand out ail the presents. Every child received a bag o! candy and some fruit, ah of which was donated by kind friends of the Sunday School. Much credit goes ta Ann and- Gayle Thomas for having pro- duced such a delight!ul even- ing's ententainment. Farewell Party Is HeId For McMuIIen Family Friends and neighbors In coodly numben attended a Christmas Party on Tuesday, Dec. 28 in Newcastle United Chunch S. S. Hall in honno! of Mn. and Mns. F. McMullen and family who had recently left aur village and moved to Scar- boro. Rev. M. C. Fisher acting as chairman called on Mn. N. Stewart fof Canal singing and aften the Country Four Quar- tette in camic style traoped off a farewell numben. Mn. and Mns. McMullen and family seat- ed on platform heard an ad- dress o! appreciation for ser- vices rendened during their nine years' nesidence in New- castle, read by Mn. A. Perrin. Mn. Chai Glenney and Mn. R. Dickinson presented a Duncan Phyfe table and a large size niantel mirror from the com- munity. Mn. I. McCulloch on be- bal! of Hockey and Basebal clubs presented Mn. McMullen with a Shaeffen pen. The Coun- try Four entertained with quite a Jovial number before replies were made. Mr. and Mrs. Mc- Mullen in well chosen words replied with thanks and o! en- jayment during their stay in our village, ln comparison city and village life both hadt friendly folk. Master Freddie Graham favored with two piano num- bers, Mrs. D. Jase with read- ings, Mn. 1H. Jase gave appre- ciation o! Mn. McMullen in' Municipal, Masonic and Lions Club, while Mn. M. Paterson spoke for sports. Country Four Quartette closed the evening's programme. While lunch was being senved best wishes were extended to the McMullen family in their new area.
