www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Friday, October 18, 2013 | 12 continued from p.10 The Kerr Village BIA is excited about once again partnering with the Santa Claus Parade. "The Kerr Village BIA has been a strong supporter of the parade for many years. They are a gold sponsor and just terrific parade promoters," said Pam Damoff, parade chair. "It is only natural for us to once again partner with the Parade to offer children these once-ina-lifetime memories," said Dean MacLean, Kerr Village BIA chair As kids and adults alike anxiously await the return of Santa, the Oakville Santa Claus Parade invites all community groups, schools, sports teams and businesses to enter a float in this year's Best School Float challenge returns with $500 grand prize special anniversary parade. The event has been delighting families, residents and visitors for 65 years, and now it's your turn to be a part of all the holiday cheer by entering a float. Creativity and originality are key when designing the float. Enter your floats The entries are coming in quickly, and they get better each year. A few of the entries received so far include the Oakville Academy for the Arts (overall winner and best commercial float winner two years' running), Walton Church reminiscing about Christmases past and present, and YMCA of Oakville that will be celebrating the Y through the years. The parade committee urges all groups to get involved in the excitement. Whether you are a service club, charity or community organization, sports team or local business, don't miss out on this long-standing holiday tradition. As always, the parade is looking for local schools to participate in the Best School Float challenge and wrestle the title away from the three French language schools: École Secondaire Gaétan Gervais, École Patrice Picknell, École du Chêne, and Oakville Trafalgar High School Robotics, winners of Best School Float award last year. Schools can also compete for the overall grand prize of $500 for the group that can top the rest. Entry forms for parade floats are now available online at www.oakvillesantaclausparade.ca. The deadline is the first 50 entries received or Oct. 28, whichever comes first. There are only a few spots left. The 2013 parade takes place Saturday, Nov. 16 beginning at 9 a.m., at Lakeshore Road East and Reynolds Street. It goes west on Lakeshore to Kerr Street, north on Kerr and end at Kerr and Stewart streets.
