Fire victim identified as Oakville man The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) confirmed Monday the body discovered following a cottage fire, which occurred near Peterborough, Ont. on Oct. 1, is that of Oakville resident Pierre Girard. Girard, 53, was visiting the family cottage in Selwyn Township with the family's chocolate Labrador retriever, Charlie, when fire broke out at around 8:20 a.m. OPP Const. Bruce Hanna said the cottage was fully engulfed in flames when police arrived. The remains of a man and a dog were found lying together in the ruins of the cabin. A post-mortem examination conducted in Kingston, Ont. confirmed the human remains are those of Girard.
