www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Wednesday, October 9, 2013 | 12 Halton EMS celebrates life with the community continued from p.11 He took a year off from school while his body and brain healed before deciding to pursue a career in sports. "Most students at the sports college (level) want to be on the air. Who doesn't? But I feel my forte is on the creative side," Filangi said. Also given a second chance at life because of the courageous efforts of paramedics were Ralph Borrelli, Robert Glenn Cook, Brian Hoffman and Michelle Kapuvari. Joining Borrelli on stage were paramedics Robin Barrie, Shawn Hogan, James Biggers, Joseph D'Etienne and Michael Mitchell, all of whom provided life-saving care for him after an accident with a piece of machinery nearly took his life. Cook, of Waterdown, who woke up 19 days later in intensive care after suffering a sudden heart attack on his way to get a baseball glove from his car for a teammate, was joined by his life savers, paramedics Alain Vaillant, Brian Franks, Abby McMillan and Tim Bialogrecki. Also on hand were bystanders Mike Armes and Chris Bailey, off-duty firefighters on the other team, who provided CPR until paramedics arrived. Paramedics Jason Barclay, Polly FordJones, Janey Lamont and Samantha ComeauSeguin performed life-saving procedures to save Hoffman's life when the Oakville resident suffered a heart attack while riding his bike on his way home from work. They were joined on stage with bystanders Myrtle Benjamin, Majken Church and Amy Donaldson, who pulled him out of a ditch and provided CPR until paramedics arrived on the scene. Kapuvari held her infant son as she thanked paramedics Ian Manson, Kathleen Kube, Paul Wells and David Bozzi for helping her through her delivery at her Milton home when it became abundantly clear she wasn't going to make it to the hospital.
