The purpose of this meeting was to provide business leaders with an opportunity to speak directly with Premier Wynne and Minister Hoskins regarding jobs and economic growth in the region. Based on the chamber's recent advocacy survey, we were able to share with the roundtable that the results for Oakville are optimistic, especially as it relates to job creation. The two areas of concern for economic growth focus on transportation and skills and regulatory misalignment. We hear constantly from employers: "We can't find good people," but we have people searching for work. There is clearly a misalignment of the needs of employers and the skills of those looking for work. Our chamber has a close working relationship with the U.S. Consulate and it has pointed out the barriers created by the misalignment of regulations. A local company is faced with up to six levels of government regulation. We are committed to bringing forward the perspective of the business community on important issues. All this in my first week on the job. I'm investing in some good running shoes. We were able to raise more than $11,000.00 towards the Halton Chapter's Client Services. We had excellent golf weather and were so pleased to have so many past participants return. Thank you to everyone who made this day possible. The Halton Chapter MS Society does not receive any government funding, so the money that we raise goes directly to helping out those with and affected by Multiple Sclerosis. The Chapter offers too many services to mention here but again, thank you for helping us make that possible.
