Margarita Perez described Juan Daniel Tor- res, 19, as a beautiful, caring, warmhearted teen who was supposed to take his rst steps towards becoming a doctor by starting at the University of Toronto this month. Instead, he lies in a semi-vegetative state in a bed at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Perez said her son can open his eyes, seems to hear, and can even be seen laughing in a video his family has shot. Beyond that, the graduate of St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Secondary School appears barely able to move or speak and there is some debate as to his true level of awareness. see Mom on p.5
