"We have donated nearly $3.5 million through the foundation alone and more through our Corporate Giving program. Our mission is to support women's and children's charities, especially in the areas of Disease Prevention and Education, Children and Youth and Child Nutrition and Food Aid Programs. Some of our current charitable partners include The New Oakville Hospital, Wellspring and Healthy Fam (Kids Culinary Community) in the Halton area, as well as community hospitals throughout the GTA, children's camps and The Darling Home for Kids." The Longo's Family Charitable Foundation began in 1998, dedicated to inspiring healthy families. "My Dad and two uncles (Gus, Tommy and Joe Longo) had always donated their time and money to various charities when Anthony suggested a family charitable foundation would help guide a more focused effort and build a family legacy of giving back to the community" explains Rosanne, who continues that legacy today as Board Chair. In 1990 the Longo family hosted their first annual charity golf tournament with 75 golfers participating, raising $5,000. The 24th annual tournament this past June top Julia Hanna with Kids Culinary Community (co-founded with Longo's), inspiring and teaching children about the importance of healthy food below Tony Indovina and the Longo's team provide sponsorship at Oakville's Relay for Life hosted 500 golfers who raised $210,000. With over 57 years in the food industry, Rosanne says Longo's has a responsibility to inspire healthy eating by providing nutritional recipes, information on health and wellbeing and offering healthier options in their stores. "We have a corporate dietitian who advises us on how to inspire healthy eating for families and at many of our Loft locations we offer cooking classes and information sessions especially geared to those living with diabetes or cancer," says Rosanne. Four times a year we publish Experience Magazine which features recipes and tips, including our Spring issue that focuses on healthy eating. This aligns with our Foundation mission to help inspire healthy families." Tony Indovina, manager of the new Longo's store in southeast Oakville says each store helps support local events in their community. "We try to help churches and schools and help with kids' educational programs, as well as help support women and children's charities," says Tony, who is part of the Longo family (his Mom is a Longo) and ran the Oakville Trafalgar store for 17 years. He's been with the company 28 years. "Every year for the past 10 years we have sponsored and provided all of the food for the Relay for Life, which helps raise money for cancer research," says Tony. "It's a great event and we are so proud to be a part of it." 3 Oakville Locations to Serve You SOUTHEAST OAKVILLE 469 Cornwall Road 905-338-1255 Dundas Trafalgar Winston Churchill Bronte BURLOAK 3455 Wycroft Rd. 905-825-8989 OAKVILLE Appleby Burloak RioCan Centre Burloak Bronte Cornwall Road Harvest Rd.
