Same suspect behind two assaults on women by David Lea Oakville Beaver Staff 11 | Friday, September 6, 2013 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Halton police are now investigating the possibility that two recent assaults on young women in Oakville were carried out by the same person. The first incident took place on July 16 at 2:30 a.m. when a man approached a lone 27-year-old woman from behind as she walked through the Morrison Valley Ravine, located between White Oaks Boulevard and Lambeth Road. Police said the man attempted to engage the woman in conversation and then touched her inappropriately. The suspect was described as 20-23 years of age, 5-foot-8, clean shaven with dark brown or black hair and a slim build. He was wearing a long-sleeved darkcoloured shirt and pants with a dark-coloured baseball hat. The second incident occurred on Aug. 23 at 10 a.m. when a man attacked a 21-year-old woman from behind as she walked along a trail behind Sheridan College. Police said the man touched the woman inappropriately and pushed her to the ground in an effort to continue the assault. The woman was able to fight off her attacker who subsequently fled the area on foot. The suspect in this incident was described as white, 25-30 years of age, 5-foot-4 with blonde hair, possibly facial hair and an average build. He was wearing a dark blue plaid jacket, hoodie and sunglasses. Police believe the two assaults may be connected due to their similar nature and their close proximity to each other. Police are continuing their investigation into both these occurrences and remind the public of the following prevention tips when walking: · Walk with a purpose · Be alert and attentive to your surroundings at all times · Avoid unlit streets and shortcuts through parks and/or vacant lots · If you suspect you are being followed, cross the street, scream if necessary · If you fear for your safety, call 911 Anyone with information about either of these incidents is asked to contact the Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit at 905-465-8970, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), through the web at www.haltoncrimestoppers. com or by texting `Tip201' with your message to 274637 (crimes).
