New to Oakville this fall, ARK is a running and training program for boys and girls aged six to 14. ARK has already been established in five other southern Ontario communities with more than 500 participants this past spring. In Oakville's eight-week introductory session, ARK coaches will focus on map reading, agility, speed training and endurance. ARK combines trail running, night running, navigation, cross country running, obstacles and winter snowshoe running to create a fun, challenging ecoadventure. Coaches and leaders not only challenge and teach kids to be stronger, tougher and faster runners while having an appreciation and respect for the environment, but they also coach kids on the problem solving skills necessary in training, racing and life. ARK runs in the fall and spring with one training night per week for an hour. Weekly sessions focus on a theme such as running agility, speed training, route finding, running power and terrain running. Each child participates at his or her own comfort level and is not in direct competition with other participants. The only gear required is loose fitting, lightweight, easily-washable clothing in the warmer weather, with layers necessary as the temperature drops. Trail running shoes are recommended to handle loose and uneven terrain. Practices run every week unless there are weather alerts or the temperature dips to -15 degrees Celsius. As the daylight shortens, kids will be running with the use of headlamps one of the highlights of the fall ARK is for kids on the run Advertorial www.TapPeques.com 1-800-720-2987 info@tappeques.com Challenge kids to run stronger and faster while developing appreciation for the natural environment Embark on a journey in Spanish session for participants; exercises may be modified in the dark but the emphasis is still on fun. A d v e n t u r e R u n n i n g K i d s . c a Children are the future of our global society. The next generation needs to be even further developed, tolerant, and have the ability to communicate with different cultures. In Canada, French has commonly been chosen as a second language but exposing your child to Spanish may be important too. Spanish is the third most commonly used language on the Internet after English and Mandarin, it is also the second most studied language and the second language in international communication, after English, in the world. As parents, we want the best for our children, allowing them to reach their full potential. General thought is that if they are too young, they will be confused and it will inhibit their ability to learn their primary language. In reality, learning another language will improve their linguistic abilities and will certainly benefit from learning about where that language is spoken and the culture of the people. We would like to invite you to join us this fall to embark on a journey through the world of Spanish as a second language with Descubre el Español con Santillana. It is a comprehensive Spanish program designed to promote, support, and enhance education in the foreign language. The program explores the language and the cultures of 20 Spanish-speaking countries; creates as much interest in the culture as it does in the language, makes second language acquisition fun and easy; includes print and digital resources; supports students of all language levels, from beginners to Heritage speakers. Tap Peques' philosophy aims to inspire children and youth to grow globally by being exposed to multicultural expressions. "We strive to strengthen children and youth understanding of diversity through the "learning by doing" philosophy in the different programs that we offer," said Celina Gutierrez, owner and founder of Tap Peques. Peques is the short form of pequeños, which in English means little ones. As for the "Tap" it is a call to action to inspire kids to immerse in a cultural adventure. Gutierrez was inspired by her daughter to start this business venture about seven years ago. She is originally from Mexico and as an immigrant mom she embraces multiculturalism among youth. Tap Peques is becoming Canada's leader in providing the best in today's Spanish educational learning resources, with a friendly online shopping experience for both families and businesses. Registration is now open.
