Taylor Potts, Abigail Haines, Jillian Perrone, Jeremy Stott, Joshua Havin and Alanna Bray-Lougheed combined to win six gold medals, five silver and four bronze. Potts, fresh off a bronze-winning performance at the ICF Junior and Under-23 Canoe Sprint World Championships, led the way in women's canoe with two individual gold (singles 200-metre and 500m), also teaming with Haines to win team gold (doubles 200m) and silver (international canoeing fours 500m). Haines and Perrone won team gold (international canoeing fours 500m), and Perrone added team silver in another event (canoeing doubles 5,000m). In men's canoe, Stott was part of four medal-winning teams, including two gold (doubles 1,000m and 5,000m). Havin joined Stott for team silver (international canoeing 1,000m) and bronze (international canoeing 200m), and also collected a team bronze in canoeing doubles 200m. Bray-Lougheed earned two silver (doubles 500m and fours 200m) and two bronze (singles 200m and fours 500m) in women's kayak competition. Other local results Other Oakville athletes to win medals at the Games included Jesse Flores (tennis team mixed gold and men's doubles silver); Sasha Boulton (mixed triathlon relay gold and women's triathlon relay bronze); and Griffin Sanford and Danny Roderick (men's baseball silver). Narrowly missing the podium with fourthplace finishes Sasha Boulton were Lauren McLaughlin (women's softball), Colleen Hennessy (women's 1,500m) and Austin Smeenk (200m wheelchair). Local residents' results in swimming and women's soccer at the Games were printed in Friday's edition of the Beaver, highlighted by Oakville Aquatic Club member Evan White's six-gold showing. -- Not all team results posted on the Canada Summer Games website included a list of athletes. The Oakville Hawks peewee 1 team was mere minutes away from winning a box lacrosse provincial championship on its home floor Sunday, only to see everything slip away in the end. But, as tough as it was to deal with, coach Troy Cordingley says it could have been a lot worse. "If we lost because of no effort, it would have been a really hard pill to swallow. But these kids gave their heart and soul to this," said the Hawks bench boss, who also coaches the National Lacrosse League's Buf- falo Bandits. Oakville led rival Whitby 4-3 late in regulation time, but the top-seeded Warriors scored two quick goals to take a 5-4 lead, then added an empty-netter to down the Hawks 6-4 at Toronto Rock Athletic Centre. The defeat was Oakville's first in the tournament after a 5-0 romp through round-robin play, including a 9-6 win over the Warriors. "It is tough... We were close, there's no question about it, but you know there can only be one winner," Cordingley said. "After a difficult loss, (our players) stuck together like true family, like teammates." The peewees defeated Peterborough 5-2, Six Nations 6-0, Burlington 4-1 and Guelph 5-3 before the round-robin win over Whitby. Members of the squad are Owen Sage, Ryan Marshall, Jack Follows, Kyle Kachan, Ryan O'Hara, Bryce Cordingley, Alton McDermott, Tyler Ford, Ben Doherty, Jack Travassos, Curtis Goddard, Kaidan Gilbert, Matthew Hill, Vincent Milantoni, Matthew Wright, Bradley Somers, Michael Jackman, Justin Sykes, Aden Walsh and Michael Hodowany. Bob Sykes and Steve Doherty also coach the team, Rob Travassos is the trainer and Heidi Follows is the manager. Bantams The bantam 1 Hawks also suffered through a difficult ending to provincials, settling for silver with a 6-3 loss in the final to St. Catharines.
