The studio has grown faster than anticipated since 2002, and as a result, has custom built a 12,000 square-foot facility to suit the needs of the studio's dancers and their families. The growth of the studio is a testament to the high quality dance instruction provided in a positive, fun, professional and organized environment. Laura Dacyshyn, the studio's owner, says that with this expansion, more dancers will have access to convenient class times and busy parents will have the option of enrolling two or even three siblings in different classes at the same time. Also, with more classes on the schedule, fewer students will be turned away when a particular class reaches its maximum. The new state-of-the-art facility includes five oversized studios with professionally sprung "Harlequin" dance floors and parent viewing windows leading to all classrooms, as well as anchored ballet barres and wall-to-wall mirrors to provide students with optimum views of their bodies and feet. Laura explains why it is important to dance in a professional facility; "Dance is a physical activity which involves a lot of jumping. This can put stress on bones and joints if it not practiced on the proper floor. Since dance footwear does not provide cushioning or support, the shock of a hard floor will create pressure on the knees, ankles and back of a dancer and can lead to injuries such as shin splints, stress fractures and tired joints. Since it is essential that even the youngest dancers begin their training on a sprung floor that provides the right cushion and give for the demands of dance, we have equipped all of our studios with the most advanced technology in floating floors. Also, our non-slip Harlequin linoleum top coat, which has replaced the old style wood floor, ensures that dancers do not run the risk of sliding or slipping in class; something that could also lead to injury, especially in ballet slippers or pointe shoes." Spacious, family-friendly waiting room In addition to the exceptional studio space, there is also a spacious and bright family-friendly waiting room, equipped with an HD flat screen television and free Wi-Fi. Large boys and girls change rooms provide privacy, and of course, there will be a quiet homework room for dancers, brothers and sisters. "With many girls and boys spending so much time at the studio, it is important that they have a quiet place to go if they need to catch up on homework in between classes." says Laura. Allegro School of Dance has been instructing students of all ages for more than 11 years. Back in 2002, Laura ran ballet classes in a church basement with less than 30 students. "While growing, we have managed to keep that small studio feel," explains Laura. "And we have been lucky to have consistency with both dancers and teachers. We have seen students mature from toddlers to teenagers. We have taught everyone from sisters to brothers to cousins and even their moms! I am flattered that so many families have put their trust in the studio and its teaching staff." Today, the studio offers ballet, jazz, tap, acro, hip hop, lyrical and conditioning classes to approximately 500 recreational and competitive students ranging in age from three years to adult. The studio has a proven reputation in the strength of the dancers it has produced. Many Allegro students have been accepted into full time and summer programs at Quinte Ballet School, Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, Etobicoke School of The Arts, Ryerson University's Dance Program and Canada's National Ballet School.
