Johnson, Thomas (Died)
- Full Text
A gloom was cast over the town on Monday when it was learned that Thos. Johnson, Reeve of the Town, had joined the silent majority. It was a great surprise, as many were not aware of his illness. He had only been sick a few days, but pneumonia got in its deadly work and claimed another victim. Deceased was well known in the town, having lived here for a great many years, and was greatly respected by his fellow citizens. No better proof of this is required than the fact that he was, at the last municipal elections, elected Reeve by acclamation, a position he has capably filled ever since. He was a member of Court Freestone, C.O.F., in which society he carried $1,000 insurance. He was also a member of the Great Grimsby Lodge, S.O.E. Grimsby has lost one of its best citizens and the bereaved family have the heartfelt sympathy of the whole community in their hour of affliction. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon to the Church of England Cemetery and was very largely attended, the members of the C.O.F. and S.O.E. attending in a body. The business places were all closed from one o'clock till after the funeral. ... The pallbearers were M. Unwin, H.F. Baker, and H.C. Kerman, of S.O.E. and T.J. Farrell, H. Millgate, and Wm. Barnes of the C.O.F.
