Youngster competes in Jr. world golf tourney Oakville youngster Barron Mundy recently finished 28th overall as an underage participant at the Callaway Junior World Golf Championship at Torrey Pines near San Diego. Mundy, a five-year-old who will begin senior kindergarten at St. Andrew Catholic School this fall, shot rounds of 76, 70 and 78. Teal hurled the javelin 18.08 metres in her firstever official javelin competition. The 12-year-old hopes to follow in the footsteps of former Athletiques member Valerie Tulloch, who became the first Canadian woman to throw the javelin further than 60m in a bronze-winning performance at the 1995 PanAmerican Games. Teal also claimed gold in the 800m race walk at outdoor provincials, posting a time of 5:42.02 to win by more than 80 metres. Teal was edged by a few seconds in the event at the indoor championships April 6, when she was making her competitive debut.
