Pick up a larger Blue Box Halton Region will host four Blue Box Pick-up events so residents can get the new larger 22-gallon blue box free. Events will take place on Aug. 10, from 9 a.m.3 p.m. at the Robert C. Austin Operations Centre, 11620 Trafalgar Rd., Georgetown and Burlington Closed Landfill, 291 North Service Rd. (west of King Road), as well as on Aug. 17 at the Halton Regional Centre, 1151 Bronte Rd. in Oakville, and the Halton Waste Management Site, 5400 Regional Road 25, Milton. The larger blue boxes are designed to help residents recycle more materials now accepted in Halton's Blue Boxes, including: clear plastic clamshells (such as, berry and lettuce containers), single-serve yogurt cups, plastic plant pots and trays, empty metal paint cans (lids removed), and cardboard cans (such as, frozen juice/chip cans). "Halton residents have embraced the recent waste collection enhancements and their participation is already having a positive impact," said Regional Chair Gary Carr. "Halton has distributed more than 40,000 Blue Boxes to Halton residents and seen an increase of 13 per cent more Blue Box and GreenCart materials being collected, and a decrease of six per cent in the amount of garbage collected. This is a tremendous achievement, one that is helping to extend the life of Halton's landfill site and provide savings of $15 million to taxpayers." 4265 Fairview Street, Burlington 905.634.9556 (between Walkers & Appleby Line) 140 Hester Street, Hamilton 905.667.4710 Applewood Village Plaza, 1077 North Service Road, Mississauga 905.275.9556 emeraldkitchens .ca www.oakville.ca TURE LTU N AND CU ION ION TIO TI AT EA CRE S, RECR PARKS, Pick up your Town of Oakville Parks, Recreation and Culture Guide today!
