Elizabeth (Betty) Jean Tough Our amazing 91 year old matriarch Elizabeth Jean Tough (nee Perdue) left us suddenly on the afternoon of July 23, 2013. Although, it was discovered not before mastering her daily crossword and Sudoku. Great-Nana, Nana, Mom, Betty was truly a remarkable woman...... attractive, stylish, (photo is current!) an excellent educator, athlete, swimmer, bridge player, gardener, entertainer, traveller, knitter and as our dad said "the most intelligent woman he had ever met"! However, for us, her best accomplishment was the drawing together of our huge family. She lost our beloved "big Doug" six years ago but carried on and cemented us all. She will be sorely missed by her three children Jeanine (Don) Thompson, Douglas (Domenica) Tough and Graham (Rosemary) Tough plus her fourteen grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren. Her Balsam Lake cottage was her special place and the family have many wonderful memories of our times together there. She wintered in Fort Myers Beach, Florida for many years and in her late 80's still ran aquabic classes and tai chi - what a role model she was for us all! She spent her last 7 years at The Kensington in Oakville where she enjoyed all the activities and the good friends she made there. A family memorial celebration will be held on her beloved Balsam Lake. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
