Blades traded away top scorers from last season continued from p.25 to see this team like it was in Carlo's years, in first place challenging for the (Ontario championship) every year with Oakville kids." If the Blades are to do that next year, they'll have to do so without almost all of their top point-producers from a year ago. Mississauga residents and twin brothers Jonah and Nathan Renouf -- second and sixth in league scoring, respectively -- were recently shipped to a British Columbia Hockey League squad, as was Patrick Chore (third in team scoring with 63 points) and twin brother Eric. Stefan Leblanc, Oakville's highest-scoring defenceman in 2012-13, signed with the Ontario Hockey League's Sudbury Wolves last month. "The Renoufs have (scholarships) from Quinnipiac (university), and the school wanted them to live away from home and get experience of being away from mom and dad, playing in a new league against different players. That's what they wanted," Harvey said of the trade. "The Chores were property of the team when we took over, and it's their last year of junior hockey. They live in Kelowna." Schedule released The Blades' 2013-14 schedule was also released earlier this month. Most notably, Oakville will host the annual Governors' Showcase Sept. 28-29 at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex, when OHL and NCAA scouts will fill the stands to see every team in the league in action. "We are looking at the Governors' Showcase as preparation to hosting the RBC (national championship tournament, which the Blades hope to do in 2016)," Harvey said. "Hopefully we get a lot of fan support out." Other items of note on the schedule include a Dec. 27 home game against Stouffville that will take place during the MOHA's Richard Bell Memorial Tournament, and the fact that the Blades will play every team in the league at least once next season. The Blades' season opener will be Friday, Sept. 6 against the Milton IceHawks. 27 | Friday, July 26, 2013 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com The Oakville A's major bantam Tier 1 team won a recent baseball tournament in Orillia. Major bantam A's are comeback kids in Orillia Deficits didn't faze the Oakville A's major bantam Tier 2 baseball team at the recent Orillia Legion OBA Tournament. Three of Oakville's four wins in the tournament were of the comeback variety, including an 11-5 romp over Thornhill in the final that the A's trailed 4-2 through three innings. Justin Vollum and Cameron Stone combined for the pitching victory in the title game, while Brad Coulter drilled a shot to the centrefield fence 400 feet away from home plate. Oakville also overcame a five-run deficit in the final inning of its opening-game win over Thorold. The A's then defeated Thornhill and Sudbury to finish round-robin play as the top seed. "This team is never out of the game, always believing they will win until the final pitch. This attitude is reflected in making Sunday playoffs in three of four tournaments this summer," said A's coach Mike Soroka. Other members of the team are Mike Lopez, Osmaan Dawood, Remington Evelyn, Ryan Soroka, Mitch Vernon, Carter Pinsonneault, Braedan Pauley, Braedan de Bakker, Connor DeJOnge and Brandon Watada. John Holloway, Russ Vernon and Bree Evelyn also coach the team.
