The educational event, which takes place in the fall, gives residents the opportunity to learn about the many aspects of policing in Halton. Courses will discuss things like the inner workings of the Forensic Identification Unit, the Homicide Unit, the Tactical and Rescue Unit and the Collisions Reconstruction Unit. Residents can also learn about fraud and identity theft prevention and get a better idea of what it is really like to be a police officer or a civilian member of the police service. The program takes place each Tuesday evening from 7-10 p.m., commencing Sept. 17-Dec. 3. Other topics that will be covered include traffic services, auxiliary policing, drugs, guns and gangs, recruiting, crisis negotiations, domestic violence investigations, use of force training and police communications. This voluntary program is designed for anyone who wishes to supplement their knowledge of the Halton Regional Police Service, and policing practices in general. Space is limited and preference will be given to persons who live, work, or attend post secondary education, within the Halton region.
