The Oakville Chamber Orchestra has awarded the winners of its inaugural Concerto Competition with two local musicians earning high praise. Oakville violinist Ji Soo Choi came in first in the Senior Class category (21 and under), followed by pianist Tiffany Tse from Richmond Hill. In the Junior Class (17 and under), Toronto violinist Emma Meinrenken took home the top prize, while Oakville violinist Leslie Ash- Orchestra crowns its first concerto competition winners worth came in second place. Richmond Hill pianist Christopher Yeung came in third in the category. Additionally, Choi and Ashworth tied as winners for the Best Entrant from Oakville award. This was the first year the orchestra has put on a concerto competition, which the organization intends to be an annual event. The finals were held on Saturday, June 15 at the Church of the Incarnation. In total, 26 young musicians applied for the competition by posting videos at YouTube.com. Nine musicians were invited by judges to perform solo at the finals. The winners of both the junior and senior categories will be featured as soloists during the chamber orchestra's 2013-14 concert season. The runners up will be featured at a concert on Dec. 15 at the Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre.
