For a tournament they weren't even sup- posed to be part of, Miltons atom selects cer- tainly looked like they belonged. In fact thats putting it mildly, after the Winterhawks added a final - and unexpect- ed - triumphant chapter to their champi- onship-laden season. A last-minute replace- ment at the Mississauga Reps Tournament, Milton reigned supreme and clinched the title in dramatic fashion. Deadlocked at 1-1 with the Lorne Park Ojibwa after regulation and overtime, the local selects got a shoot- out goal from Nicholas Collins - a top-shelf deposit - and three straight saves from Jeremy Kemichan to eke out the victory. This gave the team its third title in just a month, following regular season and playoff championship wins in the Brampton Youth Intra-City League. Tandem partner Luke Crowley stoned Lorne Park through the opening half and Kernichan turned back a breakaway with a minute left in the third period to push the championship to its suspenseful conclusion. Mateo deLima gave the Winterhawks an early lead, with help from Klay Sclisizzi. Eager to distance themselves from a 3-2 round robin-ending loss to the Richmond Hill Stars, Milton - having already earned a final four spot - stormed back to blank the Whitby Wildcats 4-0 in the semis. Kernichan and Crowley split the shutout, while Collins and Shane Mangotich led offensively with a goal and an assist each.
